Mills Community Support is working in collaboration with Interval House of Lanark County to plan and develop a new multi-unit affordable rental apartment project to accommodate persons with developmental disabilities and victims of domestic violence. The project will be located in the Almonte community of the Town of Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, which is located about half an hour west of Ottawa. The project will be built on lands that are zoned and serviced and owned by Mills Community Support adjacent to two affordable rental seniors apartments previously developed by Mills Community Support. Plans are also underway for a Community Centre complex which will serve all three buildings with a variety of recreational and adult day programs. These projects will create a highly functional community hub serving both the residents and the wider community.
The new project will consist of approximately 13 independent apartments designed in two blocks to enhance the integration of the facility into the community. A range of supportive services will be provided by Mills Community Support, Interval House and other community partners. Lanark County has recommended the project for funding under the Ministry of Housing Home for Good Program. A funding decision by the Ministry is expected in the early fall of 2017.
